What does it mean to "have been given a series of vaccinations" in this case? I would think it means that a health official stuck a couple dozen doses of vaccine in a tube and sent it down the hole.

Given the autonomy the miners have already demonstrated in their protests over having their mail censored and being denied wine, cigarettes, and tostadas, I'm sure they are making their own decisions about the vaccinations.

Chile is very pro vaccine, period!.. I don't think that any one have even questioned about the efficacy of the vaccine.

kindchen, I think the Chilean government is probably concerned about flu exposure following rescue, which is supposed to begin today. They want to prepare the miners for exposure to diseases they will encounter once they return to the surface.

Yeah, I think they're in fairly rough shape and less able than usual to cope with a major infection.

The AP story I read this afternoon said they're sending down a medical technician to triage them for removal, so I don't think they're expected to administer their own injections.
