Working out at home...where to start?

I would like to start running, but need shoes for that.

I also need to be able to work out at home. Where do I start? I have an exercise ball in storage at my ILs (we think...hubby can't find it though). I thought I still had some exercise bands.

What about kettlebells? 5 pounds? 10? 1 or 2?

We have a WII Fit Plus and balance board. What programs would you suggest? We do have one of the Biggest Loser programs.

I have a Yoga DVD I need to drag out.

What else? I was thinking a yoga mat?

It all depends on what your goals are. My goal is to shed a ton of weight, and I've lost 70 pounds since May. I have taken up running (couch to 5k and Hal Hidgeon's Marathon training), plus weight training with hand weights at home. I also do a weekly yoga class and do the same yoga exercises at home about 3x a week.

And last week I started Insanity. It is.... insane. A horrific workout that keeps you working for 30 minutes, 5 days a week. I got it for cheap on Ebay; started it after a friend did it and I loved her results. The cool thing about it is that you don't need any equipment- just a death wish.

Overall, I don't have much equipment- hand weights, good shoes, yoga mat. I have a treadmill but prefer to run outside.

I downloaded p90x and I am really enjoying it. all you need is weights or resistance band. they do use a pull-up bar, but I'm improvising with weights. I've really toned up in the past couple weeks and my strength has really improved.

That is COOL! It was between Insanity and P90x for DH and I. We went with Insanity becuase we couldn't figure out how to get around having to get the equipment for P90X. I'm glad you found a solution that works for you!

I am down 59.4 pounds with 47.6 pounds to go. My goal is weightloss and gaining muscle. Basically getting fit. I know the older I get the harder it will be. I will be 45 in a couple of weeks.

Insanity is a great program to do at home if you want to lose weight and get really fit cardio-wise. It requires no equipment which is wonderful!

I also like to recommend all the DVDs put out by Women's Health. Minimal equipment needed (one pair of hand weights and an exercise mat at most).

Hi guys, I just finished P90x and am doing Chalean Extreme weight lifting 3 days a week with a turbo jam/insanity hybrid. I do insanity once a week, just like the pylometrics in P90x was once a week. I have asthma and am not ready for Insanity 6 days a week, but P90x did greatly increase my lung capacity! I was able to quit taking my rescuse inhaler after the first month of P90x. Oh I just became a beachbody coach so if anyone is looking for a frugal, minimalist, homemade recovery drink coach send me a PM. I am a nurse and recently quit to SAH and believe exercise and diet can greatly reduce health problems and I enjoy helping people so much.

I live out in the middle of nowhere and have three kids and minimal time, so I am with you on this one. I lost 70 lbs twice (after pregnancies) and 40 of those pounds were pre-pregnancy weight that had been haunting me for a couple years. I used a biggest loser 2 dvd and started walking out in my driveway. The walking turned into jogging/walking and now I'm a runner and love it! I still have a few pounds to go but I think the key is, consistancy. Get up and workout even if you're tired. You are going to be tired either way and I'd rather be in shape and tired over being out of shape and tired any day. You can do this momma. Don't worry about equipment. Just start drinking tons o' water and doing your dvd's. I'd start investing in new shoes over the yoga mat. Have a set of 5 lb weights and skip the kettle bells and all the other extras. Look up 8 min abs on youtube.com and do that everyday.
