cat surgery-vet fees?

I'm wondering what you guys would expect to pay for vet fees for this:
abcess surgery and x-ray of cat paw

the vet thinks someone shot our cat with a bebe and it may still be lodged at the wrist joint. his paw is all torn up, you can see the bone. the vet is concerned there isn't enough skin to close the wound (it's that big). We have learned our lesson, we have to strictly indoor only cats now. I hate that this is how the lesson had to be learned, please don't flame me. Anyway, we were quoted 500 bucks. I think it's reasonable for anesthesia and everything. what do you think?

I would say that is reasonable and even too low. But vet costs vary a lot regionally and they are not cheap here.

It depends a lot on your location. I recently priced vet services after moving from SC to NC and discovered that they jumped significantly here.

From my research:
exam fee: $45-50
xrays 1st view: $77
xrays 2+ veiws: $37
preanesthesia blood panel: $50-60

Cat spays, so a surgery that takes 15-20 mins for most vets, cost about $160-240 including bloodwork and pain meds.

I'd say $500 for xrays and what sounds like a fairly involved surgery wouldn't be unreasonable, though it might be a bit on the high end around here.

I think that's reasonable for what sounds to be an extensive surgery. If they were just draining and abscess or something, I'd say it's way too high, but if you can see bone and there isn't enough skin- that's way more involved. I'm honestly surprised it's not more than that!

You would be looking at a minimum of 500 at our practice.

I just spent $2000 on abscess surgery which ended up being extensive with some extractions. Included blood work, anesthesia, surgery and abx.
