usa today article on possible autism/jaundice link

I'm sorry, but I find that almost laughable. First of all they don't even specify the type of jaundice they are referring to which knocks it right out of the credibility realm for me. There is jaundice that happens from birth to a couple days and also jaundice that onsets at 4 days.

I have a child with autism that never had jaundice, none of my kids have. I think if there is ANY correlation it would be more to do with genetics and if normal infant jaundice runs in a family and if autism runs in the family (most likely undiagnosed in past generations). Although I don't think they would be relation as far as cause and effect together except perhaps an autistic child being more susceptible to the things that cause jaundice in the first place. Stressors on the body showing more.

Weird. DS (who was born in October) had jaundice (which eventually got bad enough to require a biliblanket) and has been diagnosed with autism.

Weird article indeed.

Weird. FWIW, three of my kids had jaundice. None are autistic.

My autistic kid had mild jaundice, my non-autistic bio kid had bad jaundice. And I had jaundice as a baby and do not have autism. I thought the majority of babies get jaundice?

I didn't necessarily say I agreed with the article , just thought it might be of interest to some people.

My DS with autism had jaundice, he had to stay for 3 extra days under the bili-lights. He also had the K-shot, the goop in the eyes, the hepatitis vax, I had 2 Rh-shots when he was in utero, I had an x-ray and a filling while pregnant, several thousand ultrasounds, Nubain, pitocin, epidural, unscheduled c-section, and now that I know what ASD is I think I, his mother, might be on the spectrum (an online quiz and my dh agree with me) so this jaundice report isn't that off-the-wall to me, just another bean in the kettle of stuff that my precious DS comes from.
