Secular upper elem/ms zoology & human biology

My 9 yo wants to study zoology and biology. I had some Waldorf resources, but she's finding them...hokey and not fun. I am having trouble finding non-religious and evolutionary biology friendly resources for kids on her level. She's in 4th grade but wants something up to about middle school or even higher. She is perfectly capable at this level, so I am not worried about too advanced, more worried about her being bored to death on the little kid books I keep finding. I have a college text, but don't want to get *that* detailed into it.

Here are a few things I have found but do not know anyone who has used them.

Is there anything else out there? Preferably something easy for a 9 month pregnant mama to help her out with? She would like something she can read mostly herself with little help. We love our other Horrible history/science books, so I'm thinking these would work, but I can not find views/reviews!

All I can tell you right now is that my girls really enjoy the Eyewitness books. Even though they're found in the children's section, they're pretty meaty. The vocab and concepts are impressively thorough (imo).

My now-12yo used Prentice Hall's Life Science text last year, but it was incredibly boring!

ugh, we've been having the same issues. I have a science text that we've been using buy we've also found it very boring. Luckily, I have a college degree in Biology and will probably be able to come up with my own curriculum. We are waiting until Spring when studying life science in real life will be easier. Its frustrating though, I'm really surprised that there is really nothing out there (that I've found).

I have yet to find a great secular science curriculum. We love real books here, and I have found Noeo science to be good. http://www.noeoscience.com/bio1.html There is no religious stuff in the instructors guide so if you just cut out the religious books, it would be a secular curriculum.
