Easy reading books for kindergartner?

My ds is in between preschool and kindergarten for reading. He is doing a great job but we don't have any easy reading books for him at home. I have been looking at the BOB reading books but don't know what set to get him. I don't want to get a set that will be too easy or one that is too hard.

What easy reading books do your kids like?

the first set of bob books are great because even if they're too easy, they will build your son's confidence. you can find them fairly cheap used at homeschool classifieds or probably amazon. they're admittedly stupid, but worked well for my kids. we also enjoy making our own books at that age. just use words that your little guy is familiar with, mixed with a few sight words if desired. illustrate them together... it's fun! lastly, we love the "i can read books". they involve a lot more sight words, but the biscuit stories were a big hit with my child at that age. you may also want to look at nora gaydos books. i didn't use them, but i always read great things about them. oh! and the see sam books are good too...plus, they're free. love that!

We've really enjoyed Brand New Readers. They are at Borders and on Amazon and probably local stores too.

Thanks for the help! My dh is looking into getting me some BOB books on ebay. If they are too easy for my ds, then we can pass them down to the twins when they get old enough to read.

I went to the library tonight and picked out some "I Can Read!" books. Mostly the Biscuit stories. My ds read 2 of them for me tonight and he did a great job!! There were a few words he didn't get. My dh was there to hear him read too!

I will look into the other books you both mentioned.

We tried the Bob books and they were good but the books my daughter just loved were Tabby Cat. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...1-20/ref=nosim

My daughter loves the BOB books, and I agree that if you get ones that are 'too easy' it will help his confidence.

Another good free option is progressivephonics.com -- you can read the books online, or print them out to read away from the computer. They're similar to BOB in that they're silly and fun, and use a very logical sequence of reading skills. What's really nice about them is that it involves both parent and child reading -- the child reads the big red words, the parent reads the small black ones. So the stories can be more involved than just "Mat sat on Sam", but the child only has to read the words within their skill level.
