What kind of dr do we see?

My daughter is 7, Deaf and she has bilateral cochlear implants. She has a language delay but we feel like there is something more going on.

She has a lot of trouble with her memory. She struggles with concepts. For example, if I hold up 10 fingers and ask her how many, she counts and says 10. If I put them behind my back and then put them back up, she has to count them again. She struggles remembering how to even count. She learns something and then it just goes away....we don't know what it is.

What kind of doctor do we see to figure out what is going on?

(Oh, and I should add that she had severe hypoxia at birth and required ECMO, so we have already been warned that brain damage is a real possibility.)

A pediatric neuropsychologist could assess if she's having issues related to brain damage... We found ours through our nearest children's hospital. Other types of providers may be able to do similar sorts of evaluations (speech language pathologist maybe?). Best wishes -

Is there a Dev Ped on the CI team? I'd start there and ask their opinion.

No, the only people on are team were her audiologist, speech therapist and the ENT.

I am just so upset. I hate that everything about the rest of here life will be defined by the day she was born. We just can't get past that horrible day. She is so smart, it is just that it seems like it takes so much more for her to remember things, or to learn new things, and she will understand something today but then the next day it is just gone. She struggles so much, and I just don't know how to handle it! Is there anything they can do? Is she just stuck forever? Is there anything we can do to help her read and understand her academics or is she just going to get passed on and end up graduating illiterate? All I want is for her to be able to live up t her true potential, and she just keeps getting screwed over...
