How to cope with spinal tap anxiety

Thread Starter
I have some complications and will need to have a c section in a couple weeks. Last week, during a fetal blood transfusion, I had a spinal tap and kind of freaked out. I went into a bit of shock during the procedure. I started bawling during the tap and then was trembling uncontrollably during the procedure.

I'm hoping I will be more graceful during the c-section. I asked if I could wear an ipod but haven't gotten an answer yet. I also asked if they could give me anything to help calm me down but they said they strongly preferred not to. DH is even worse in these situations than I am so he will not be in the operating room.

I tried distracting myself by counting by prime numbers and singing gospel music, but I still was a mess. Any suggestions?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Could you have a doula or another support person in the OR with you, since your DH won't be there?
