Bug infestation-Help!

I've been finding these little bugs for a long time now, but there are so many bugs here, that it seemed normal. But now, it's clearly infestation levels. They are small (maybe 2 mm) dark brown/slightly reddish little beetle looking bugs. They move very slowly, I can easily catch them and squish them.

I first found them in the couch that's kind of far from the kitchen (2 rooms over) but last night found out they had totally infested the kitchen. I swept the surfaces and threw out the hundreds of them I found, but don't have time to go through the cupboards and everything before work, so will do so tonight or tomarrow. I'm going to go through and toss the infested food, (yikes on the budget), put everything in sealed containers if it's not already, and sweep/wipe out/vacume the cabinets. But what else? We're house sitting, so there's no landlord to call, but it's also not our place. My dad is.... laisez-faire about the place though I suppose he might do something if I tell him the infestation is terrible.

Anyone recognize the bug? I'll try to see if my phone has a good enough macro for a pic tonight or tomarrow but I doubt it.

Help! they're so gross!!! I hate bugs. I'd much rather have mice. (not that I'm asking for mice, universe, but you know, the cat could deal with those. and they're just less gross)

Weevils maybe? Especially with the infestation in the kitchen. I've had them before, pretty sure they originated from a bag of dog food and then took over the pantry. They had quite a fiesta in my stockpile of Spanish rice. Freezing kills them, it takes about 3 days IIRC. I vacuumed for eggs and they seemed to pretty much disappear afterward.
