Do mashed potatoes freeze well?

I'm making a vegan shepherd's pie for supper and I'm considering making 2, 1 to freeze for later. But if the potatoes don't freeze well, I may just freeze the extra filling and top it with potatoes when I cook it at a later date.

Thanks in advance!

I've read that the only way that potatoes will freeze well is if you put them in a baggie, then when you thaw them out mix/mush them up in the bag before you use them.
So I'd say that it wouldn't work to have the shepherd's pie all put together in the freezer, but it probably would work to have it all in the pan except for the potatoes, then freeze the potatoes in a baggie and sit them on top. When you go to make it, thaw the potatoes, mush them around in the bag, and put them on top before you bake it.
