Do mashed potatoes freeze well? (Cross Posted)

I'm making shepherd's pie for supper and I'm considering making 2, 1 to freeze for later. But if the potatoes don't freeze well, I may just freeze the extra filling and top it with potatoes when I cook it at a later date.

Thanks in advance!

In my experience, they really don't freeze well. The texture becomes really different, and to me it's unpleasant. If it was me, I'd add the potatoes when you cook it.

I have frozen shepherd's pie without a problem. I think it is ok becuase you're not eating the mash by itself. I wouldn't freeze mash to eat alone though.

Thanks to both of your for your responses! I didn't end up making enough potatoes for 2 pies, so I just froze the filling for the second pie. Next time I may try to freeze the potatoes just to see how they come out.
