Went for NST today...

(Hope you have time for a long one )

...and also had a membrane strip. About half an hour later I started feeling contractions. They are weak, but a bit painful and don't really have a pattern yet. Both baby and I are doing well according to the NST and the ultrasound. The "I" word came up immediately from the on-call DR. (who happens to be the Dr. I saw a few times this pg before I started UPing). It's cause there is confusion about my dates. My LMP puts me at almost 42 weeks pg, but my cycles are never standard 28 day cycles, so I am confident that I am almost 41 weeks, because my cycles are usually about 38 days long. The Dr. told me she was unwilling to adjust my due date based on a longer cycle. I told her I was. I think it is ridiculous to not take cycle length into consideration, I didn't say that though. At this point there was thick tension in the room and my dh thought the Dr. and I were kind of being catty with each other. But I was just sticking up for myself . So she consulted with an OBGYN and surprise, surprise...he agreed with me that I am not as far along. Although he did say that the placenta will deteriorate starting at 41 weeks (have to ponder that a bit...input welcome!) and put me in for an induction on Friday afternoon if I haven't had this baby yet. I still need to think that one over because my dh is out of town until about 11pm on Friday and the thought of going to be induced alone isn't appealing to me. I think I feel safe waiting until Monday. Oh wow, I always think the worst will happen. I've had 3 contractions while writing this! Hopefully the induction will be a non-issue. If I go through the next few days feeling this pain every few minutes, I'll be begging for and induction anyways .

Anyways, if you have gotten this far, thanks. I just needed somewhere to talk a bit.

From what I've been reading, the placenta doesn't start really deteriating until 43 weeks. I'm horrible about not saving the site that I read those things from though. And a LOT of sites that I've been researching the whole UP/UC says that full term is 37-42 weeks. Not to 40 weeks with weeks 41 and 42 being postterm like most hospitals consider. So you can take that into your consideration also. Post term doesn't start until 43 weeks. If it were me, I would wait until hubby got back considering its literally over the weekend. Good luck with whatever you decide. You already know that baby is still doing well.

I definitely think that going to 42 weeks is normal and safe as long as the baby is doing well and you have adequate amniotic fluid. Also, they can tell from various tests/U/S if the placenta is deteriorating. And it's rather silly that they make it sound like a given. It doesn't automatically happen at 40 weeks and as a PP stated, full term is 37-42 weeks! I just read an article in which a Dr. stated they should call it a "due MONTH, not due DATE". Can you just not show up for your induction? They really can't force you and there is no medical reason if baby is healthy! And for goodness sake! Your hubby won't even be there! That's pretty cruel of them in the first place. I'm not trying to vilianize anyone here, but seriously! You should have your partner with you. That's not too much to ask. It's not at all catty to stand up for your labor and birthing rights. Do you have a birth plan written up? Here's a great site to create one in case you haven't done it already http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/free-birth-plan
Also, it IS possible to be induced and still move around the bed/squat/etc. So if you end up being induced later, you still have options. Hopefully your DH or someone you can bring with you is comfortable being vocal on your behalf (since you'll be in labor and may not feel like arguing for your rights) and advocating for you. You go mama! Stay strong!
