getting a good night's rest is becoming more and more difficult to achieve
1st trimester, i was beyond exhausted and i could sleep like a champ. now in trimester 2, i have a hard time falling asleep and aside from the frequent trips to the bathroom, when my partner gets up to go to the gym (3am) his alarm clock wakes me up too and i can't fall back asleep! i have to be up at 7am! for weeks i've been waking up around 3 am and with my long days, i don't get back to sleep until 11pm most nights. a preggo friend of mine has only been able to get 3-4 hours a night too.. i cant imagine that this is healthy, but what gives??

is this that mythological trimester 2 energy burst everyone raves about, but backwards?

I don't know but I think I've reached the 2nd trimester energy. I could have easily gotten up at 3 today but pushed through till 7. I don't feel tired.

yeah pretty much 2nd tri is always my hardest to find sleep too. Third tri you will probably be so exhausted again you will be out before your head hits the pillow.

I need more sleep than normal in the 1st and 3rd trimesters. I love the 2nd trimester energy burst! I just wish is would last longer.

Comfort is a HUGE factor for me, even when I don't realize it.

Give me a Snoogle body pillow and I sleep like a rock. Same thing (in 2nd tri, and until my tummy gets huge) with a reg. pillow between my knees.

Also, room temperature has to be just right. I discovered after one sleepless night that I was too warm.

Maybe try to get more comfy? You definitely want to get all the rest you can

Oh, and if I get too dehydrated my urine is more irritating and I MUST get up and pee. Keeping hydrated keeps your bladder happy, which just might let you sleep without quite as many potty-trip wakeups.

it's the progesterone your placenta is now producing - it makes it very hard to sleep. in the first tri, the corpus luteum produces the progesterone, but now the placenta does, and the time when your prog will be the highest is about 2-4am. i've been having the same issues - i get all hot from the progesterone and that is usually when i am wide awake.

First of all I would like to know what this second trimester energy burst is that you all are talking about. Secondly I need a TON of sleep in pregnancy. That is just me tho.

im definitely big on comfort when sleeping.. i need to just pony up the dough and get a body pillow instead of hogging them all from DP lol.. i have one for my head, one for under my stomach and one for between my legs!

very interesting info about the 2-4am progesterone levels. that would totally explain why im wide awake! i wonder how long this will last..

i dont believe in the energy boost fairy either! during the day, im anything but energized..

sigh.. 24 more weeks.. 24 more weeks..

Ugh, I know, I wake up soooo easy and then it's hard to get to sleep. I need 10-12 hours when pregnant. Hmmm, maybe that's because I'm up so much
