Wanting to go back to work. How will I do it?

Dd will be going to PreK in Sep '11. I think the Pre K hours are 2.5 hrs or a little less or more. I need to go back to work as we recently moved and a lot of expenses have gone up. I don't want to send her to baby sitters. So, what options do I have? If she goes to a daycare from the school how does that work? I won't be there so how will she transfer to the daycare? I doubt v. much the school would have daycare facilities or do they? I didn't call the school since I thought they might find it a silly question.

Thanks.

I've always been a SAHM, so I don't have experience with this, but with a 3 & 5 yo, I've asked plenty of preschools questions. There are some preschools that are also daycares, where people can choose the morning program or full-day (ds1 went to one and just went mornings), or preschools with the option for after-care, etc. So it's not a silly question, if you're not sure what their options are. If it's a public pre-K program, they still might have after-care, etc. So, go ahead and ask!

Thanks, Reezley. That would be great if they have after school care because the school has a great reputation. I know it's going to be a while before I could even start applying to jobs (impossible to do that with dd around) but I want to start preparing for it now. I've always wondered how working parents do it.

Most schools have an extended day/afterschool program. Or if you have a boys and girls club, they have after care as well.

Good luck with everything! It is exciting to get back to work.

You might get a bit more response on this on the working parents board. My son is still young, but I"ve seen/ done the following as kid:

-boys and girls club after school
-stayed at a neighbors
-sitter picked me up
-day care or preschool bussed me from one school to another.

I wouldn't hesitate to call the school-- there are a lot of families in the same boat!
