Any shows like Timeblazers? ISO good history or science for elementary

We've always enjoyed Timeblazers, which was shown on Discovery Kids. They just changed the network over to something called HUB. No more Timeblazers Now we have to find some new educational shows to record (or buy or netflix). Any good suggestions?

My kids liked Time Warp Trio (history), and Magic School Bus, Crash Bang Splat, and Beakman's World (science). They miss Timeblazers, too. (We don't have TV reception anymore and can't find it on Netflix.)

They also like 3-2-1 Contact, Electric Company, and Schoolhouse Rock. And the They Might Be Giants videos.

Oooh, more! lol How Stuff Happens, How It's Made, Dirty Jobs, and other shows like that as well.

my son loves beakman's world on netflix. it's in their "watch instantly" queue. it's for science. he also likes liberty kids, also on netflix in watch instantly. i'll look and see what else in our queue and post back if it's worth while.

We love Beakman's and Liberty's Kids also! Definitely send more suggestions if you have them Thanks so far!

ETA: I just added all the Beakman's World to our netflix queue. We've only ever seen the "best of beakman's" because we bought it, I didn't know netflix had all of them on their instant play - score!!!

Now if only I could get easy access to all the Bill Nye dvds. Our old library had them all, but our new library doesn't

I didn't know they were getting rid of Timeblazers. That's disappointing. We just started watching it in the past couple weeks.

Unfortunately the network that took over for Discovery Kids seems to be hosting shows about kids toys, blech. Things like Strawberry Shortcake, My Little Pony, etc. I really, really, really wish they would have a great network just for kids educational viewing!

ok. shelley duvall's tall tales and legends has several videos that could count toward history-ish/literature. honestly, they're pretty dumb...but my son enjoys them. we use them when reading books about the topics at hand.

around the world in 80 days in also in our queue (the one with the book cover). we've not seen it, but we own the book and there are lots units that go along with it...so we'll see. it may be lame-o.

this is america charlie brown. you cannot play this instantly, but my kids really love this from netflix.

also in instant queue (some we've not seen yet...so they may or may not be good)
lewis and clark: the journey
lewis and clark: great journey west
david attenborough: wildlife specials
blue planet
wild china
encounters at the end of the world
out of the wild: the alaska experiment
shark week
survivor man
man vs. wild
the life of mammals
journey into amazing caves: imax
beavers: imax
life in the freezer
life of birds
meerkat manor
discovery atlas (we have several in our queue of various countries)
frontline: storm over everest (we also LOVE the everest series, but my kids don't watch that, just me...has a little language - but it's oh SO good! in fact, lots of great stuff on everest!!!!)
the diary of anne frank
national geographic

anyway. hope it helps you

hope i get more ideas to add to our queue too!!

ETA - we also have "taboos" in our queue. not seen it, but it talks about weird cultural rituals, etc. it *may* be child appropriate....don't know yet though. it looks good though just the same.

My big girl LOOOOOOOOOOVES Magic School bus. And you can get all sorts of MSB stuff like DVDs, chapter books, picture books and readers.

hehe, yep, we love Magic School Bus also. We've owned the dvds for years and my kids have watched them many times (and read the books).

Another one we like is Fetch with Ruff Ruffman.

Interesting about Fetch. My son absolutely LOVES the online game they have Germinator. I guess I'll have to go ahead and record the show to check it out!

Discovery Kids is gone, now, or just switched from being carried by some cable companies? If gone, that suuuuucks-- HUB is like the Hasbro network, it's purpose is totally to advertise it liscenced lines of toys and stuff. Awful.

I love that Beakman is on netflix-- I'm soooo gonna use that!

Looks like Discovery Kids is gone for good, according to their web site. It's VERY disappointing.

Beakman's World on Instant Netflix officially a huge hit. I had no idea there were so many!!! 24 per season and there are four seasons available for instant watching. LOVE. My kids have already deemed Beakman's World better than Bill Nye, hehe, which is good since we don't have easy access to Bill Nye now that we've moved. Good thing we watched all of them last year. I guess this can be the year of Beakman!

Seriously though, is there anything better than your kids (7.5 and 4) begging to watch Beakman during their TV time?
