About two months ago, I started seeing a naturopath because my digestion issues were at an all time worst. I have had chronic diarrhea, extreme exhaustion, nauseousness, and an urgency to go to the bathroom. So basically, I have a hard time being away from a bathroom. Not to mention that I am 5'6" and have gone down to 95 pounds - my lowest ever. I am a slight person anyway, but I usually hover around 100-105, never 95.

My doc found that I have gluten antibodies in my system and also that I don't produce enough digestive enzymes - overall, I am malnourished because my body hasn't been absorbing my nutrients. So, I have been gluten free for about a little over a month and have also been taking digestive enzymes and probiotics like mad. I have noticed a HUGE difference. Around week 3, I had more energy, felt more clear-headed and was having solid poops (sorry) and didn't worry about having to run to the bathroom when we were out and about. I felt like I had my life back again! I have been eating a lot more food since I know I have digestive help and have been really focusing on gaining weight, so I have been doing a protein smoothie with coconut and hemp milk, yogurt, etc. every morning, which is a big change for me since I used to loathe breakfast.

Here's the problem though - I am not really gaining weight. Maybe a pound or so, but I thought that now that I am eating so much more, the weight would just come right on. And, I'm at about week 5 of gluten free and enzymes and I feel lethargic, nauseous and have diarrhea again. I am on my period (first one since really being GF) and am wondering if maybe that's what's going on. But it has been so disheartening and depressing to make so much progress and feel like I was on a path to health and having my life back and to then have it come to a screeching halt and not know why.

Is there anyone out there who is going through this or something similar? I'd love to know that I'm not alone and/or how to get more calories without eating total crap that will affect my digestion in a negative way.
