what is going on?!?! (spotting...)

so i am due may 24th or so, and my LMP was august 17th...i guess that puts me around 7.5/8 weeks. on september 18th (the day after we found out) i spotted brownish cervical mucous. then again on september 26th (quite a lot of reddish brown CM) and then again on october 2nd, even more than before. i went to the ER where they did an ultrasound that showed a yolk sac with a babe but no heartbeat, and they did bloodwork and told me to come back in the morning for a real ultrasound (they just used the crappy little ER ultrasound machine and there wasn't a tech). i went back and everything was fine, my little rice baby had a pretty fast little heartbeat and they told me not to worry. fast forward a week later to october 8th where i spotted a bit of reddish blood/cervical mucous. i had been physically checking my cervix (yeah, i know...bad rye) to an almost obsessive amount because i was so worried...even to the point of wiping internally with toilet paper. they did an internal exam and said my cervix was high and closed but probably just irritated or had a small blood clot or something. they did my bloodwork and compared it to a week earlier and the baby was fine, the numbers were off the charts and they told me to just go home and stop touching it.

so i haven't been poking around in there and i am STILL spotting! i am getting so frustrated. usually once a day or once every two days i have a bit of brownish red cervical mucous, sometimes a bit stringy and a few times i have had the tiniest little clots...i also am having small amounts of it nearly each time i wipe after going to the bathroom. i don't have ANY cramps, backache, or fever/chills. i am assuming i have been checked for an ectopic and there isn't one because we saw the little baby right where it should be.
i have been getting increasingly more exhausted with a lot of morning sickness (throwing up 4 times a day on average now) and irritability, my boobs still hurt etc. i don't actually think anything is wrong, but of course i am still worried! my first doctor's appt isn't until next wednesday...i have just been laying around watching tv and sleeping mostly over the last few days.

so what do i do? is this "normal"? (i know it's not normal to bleed in pregnancy ever...) have you gone through this? do you think i have a subchorionic hematoma? i just want everything to be fine. and i am sick of my sex life suffering because of this!

for some women, it actually is.

Id say with the consistent ultrasounds showing baby is fine... lacking large amounts of bleeding, any change in the cervix (dont check it yourself anymore as you probably did irritate it) or severe cramps... I would just assume you are in the small group of women who do get spotting throughout their first tri but go on to have healthy babies.

thanks, maeryn...i was hoping you'd answer!
*sigh* ... it's still so frustrating!!! i just want to know why...trying not to stress out about it.

Maybe TMI, but have you been straining on the toilet and/or constipated? With my son, I went through a phase of at least a month in my first tri when I would get pink/reddish CM everytime I "pushed" during a BM. I think I have a sensitive cervix that was just easily irritated by that.

nope...not at all :/ there have been a couple times where i have had a...more difficult BM and definitely had increased discharge following that, but nope...i am just laying around doing nothing and it still happens. :/

it could be a subchorionic bleed - a hematoma would show up on the ultrasound but a bleed wouldn't - think of it this way, pretend you have a paper cut. you know how there is a flap of skin? the flap is like your placenta and the open raw area is like your uterus. sometimes the placenta has an edge that is not connected properly and it bleeds. if the blood doesn't come out, it ends up like a blood blister between the sac and the uterus, but if it comes out - like i'm guessing yours is - then it's ust a bleed.

once the baby gets bigger and the sac starts putting more pressure on the edge of the placenta, it will heal itself - like you might put pressure on a papercut to hold it together until it sealed itself up.if you aren't having sex, not straining while pooping and not irritating your cervix in other ways, i'm guessing it's more than likely a subchorionic bleed. you would actually rather have the blood come out than be pooled around the sac, trust me.
