I'm still hanging in there... by a thread.  But, life has improved now that I've been pumping only every 4 hours.

I have multiple goals when it comes to pumping.  First, I want to go till my domperidone runs out (3 mo), then maybe till she eats solids (5-6 mo), then I want to make it a year, I really don't have any goals further than that.  At that point I can just go to plain raw milk and be feel fine about that.

Just to let you know, I was having issues with my milk letting down at the beginning after I started Shatavari, then I quit it, and it's better now.  So, this COULD be a side effect.  Don't know.  I'd try it and just have in the back of your mind a pumping session may be a little longer than usual to get the full amount of milk.  I pump for 30 min or so, but that's because I pump with a hand's free pumping bra everytime she eats and she eats that long, so I just stay hooked up.

Why are you planning to stop pumping if pumping is working? I am somewhat confused, I'm sorry.

Pumping works better than DD... but it hasn't improved my supply much.  Now, my pumping max is 2 oz after 4 hours but I get max 8oz in one day.  I just don't see a point in going any further to build up my supply when it hasn't worked.  It's been about 5 months now... I'm just going back down to what my body can do on its own.  If there is milk for her...yeay.

I think it's all about what works best for a mom.  I think ANY amount of breastmilk a baby gets is great and wonderful, and I personally am strongly again commercial formula (I make my own, germin8, I'll be happy to share the source of the recipe and the recipe if you want to check it out it makes me feel a little less guilty from not being able to fully BF).

Some moms pump till the baby is 2+, I know I will not be one of those moms as that wouldn't work for me.  If you are pumping to try and build your supply and you don't see it building, and if you are able to BF from the breast with the milk that you have, I'd go with that any day.  Makes perfect sense.

Thanks AustinMom.  I would like to know the recipe as I am thinking that with the next child I will be in the same situation and may not get as much donated breast milk... (long story).  I am using donated breast milk now.  Checkout milkshare.com.

It's on the Weston A Price Foundation Website.  There is one for cow, goat and liver oil if your baby has intolerances to milk.

http://www.westonaprice.org/childrens-health/319.html

With our first, we stopped BFing used cow milk commercial formula, had CRAZY COLIC, switched to commercial soy, colic went away, but developed eczema, switched to goat milk, colic came back, and eczema was gone, switched to the hypoallergenic formula and still had issues.  Finally at 8 months we put him on Hempmilk.  It's not a good substitute for exclusively formula fed babies, but since he was eating a variety of homemade baby food, he was getting other nutrition elsewhere.  Oh, and as soon as we took him off commercial formula, he hasn't been sick since, except a runny nose twice, and he's 29 months now.  When he was on formula, he had 6 ear infections, 2 ruptured ear drums, strep, an allergic reaction to penicillin (due to the over use, due to the ear infections) constant eczema and other allergies.  Nothing since.

With our second, when she's been on commercial milk formula, the same colicy stuff comes back, when we use low pasturized milk, she's a little gassy, on the fully raw milk, she's fine.  They need the enzymes that are killed with pasturization to help break down the milk proteins, and the recipe takes into account that BM is higher in whey and fat and many many good fats than commercial formula and regular cow milk.

Also, just about every formula can manufactured contains BPA.  And, like recently, other things you don't want your baby to ingest, like beetle larva.  Most are high in corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, and unsafe DHA.

Hope this helps.  :)

Wow.  I don't know what I'd do since we're vegan and I wonder if their are substitutes for cod liver oil & gelatin.  Those are the two I would have to sub w/ something else.

Thanks for sharing the recipe and your experience with all sorts of milks trying to help a colicky baby.  Who would of thought to use hemp milk... great idea!

Yeah, I never thought about BPA and "beetle larva" would be in my canned formula!

yeah i think the most important thing is the cod liver oil imo aside from the milk of course.

They have also really researched all the ingredients and have a list of the best recommendations too.
