I am wondering if anyone knows what is really happening when children are getting used to new supplements. I got dd (15 months) some Brainchild some ultra sensitive multimineral. We started with .5 ml in the morning before her nap. For the first few days that she was on it, she woke up around 30 to 45 min (usually naps for 1.5 hour) and cried, but her behaviour was actually calmer during the day. And since she was sleeping well again after the initial adjustment period, I increased it to .75ml this morning and the same thing happened again -- she woke up in the middle of her nap and cried. How does this adjustment thing work?

What's really happening when they are "adjusting" to new supplements?

On the Yasko forums, this often happens, where you see a clear reaction/adjustment, but also benefits (and the adjustment doesn't last for more than a few days). It's called "detox" in Yasko-land, but what it really means is that body processes slow down/stop when there are shortages of raw materials. Add in the raw materials, and processes start moving. Sometimes that involves some "creaking" to get the wheels moving. My son did this when we added B12 for him, which he needed a ton of - every time we upped it, 3-4 days of adjustment. B12 powers methylation, and methylation does lots of DNA repair, silencing viruses, modulating immune responses. So his adjustment periods often included low grade fever, "almost sick" symptoms, as his body played catch up clearing out backlog of viral shutdown, etc. Sometimes the reaction comes from gut die off, sometimes from viral stuff, sometimes because metals are mobilized and cleared. But if you're seeing positives, I'd stick with it.
The only thing I might add - the minerals have zinc - lots of people get nauseous or a sore tummy if they take zinc without food - so be sure to give the minerals with food.
