"Too soon" for an ultrasound?

I am SO eager to find out gender, but am just creeping up on 16 weeks (come Monday).

We were planning to do an 18 week anatomy scan, and I was wondering if we did it earlier than 18 weeks if it just wouldn’t be worthwhile from a medical perspective?

We’re not sure we can afford an early ‘for fun’ gender-peek PLUS the anatomy scan. So I was curious what others think.

I’m not really at risk for anything as far as we know, so there isn’t a ton of concern. And I know it’s only 2 extra weeks to wait but I WANT TO KNOW! 

Any input/thoughts?

Haha, the extra couple of weeks will go by fast, I say just wait! Think how disappointed you will be if you can't tell.

Hang in there. It's only two weeks, mama.

It really is better to wait until 18 weeks, and you'll be more certain of seeing what you want to see (assuming that the baby cooperates).

I agree, I had a 16w5d and an 19w4d, and the one at 19w was SO much clearer. At 16w she said the thinks it is a girl, but is only about 70-80% certain, by 19w she was 100%. Here are links if you would like to compare.

I know how hard it is to wait, we had to pay $100 out of pocket to the OB to get the 16w scan. She spent 45 minutes searching and trying to confirm gender, she didn't do any kind of anatomy scan because she said there is no way she could have seen all she needed to. This was baby #4 for me (I am on #5 now, and NOT finding out the gender this time) and our first girl, so I totally get how tortorous that wait is, I DO!

Be patient! After your anatomy scan, it will be a looong time until the next u/s, if there even will be one. So this is good practice ;-)

Can you think of other things to make the days go fast? Make a paper chain! Add a baby thing or two to your shopping list every day. Go visit some friends. The two weeks will fly by! I am also waiting and counting down the days... only 11 days for us!

I guess I'll hang in there 'till the anatomy scan range (18-20).

I'm not a patient person Time is going fairly quickly, it's just that I want to know, like, yesterday!

With DS we knew at 12 wks. But I realize you can't be as sure as soon w/girls.

So we'll wait!
