have you had to pull things from the toilet?

I do not remember my older ds ever putting anything in the toilet that didn't belong there.

But this baby, 18 mo old, is another story. I am going to have to go get toilet locks.

In the last week, I have had to reach into the potty WAY too many times!
I have retrieved and had to throw away:

-our hairbrush (which I have had probably 15 years and couldn't find another one like it; we don't like the one I did buy and so I will have to get yet another one)

- his toothbrush. He is really happy with his new toothbrush which has a car, tho.

- a picture of Jesus (!)

these were all thrown in there while I was in the bathroom at the time; he was just too quick to be stopped.

DP found a pencil floating in our bathroom toilet and he told me he flushed it! ("Well, I wasn't going to put MY hand in there!" he said) Not sure when that went in.

and then, today, I left baby with dp while I ran to school to pick up ds. When I came home, I needed to use it and went in there to find my toilet filled to the top with ALL the ducks and boats!
I think I might soak these in bleach and then run them in the dishwasher instead of throwing away all his bathtub toys.
AND I won't be leaving him w dp while I go to school anymore!

Just wondering if my kid is the only one or what all you all have had to retrieve from your toilets.

Dd is also mildly obsessed with the toilet. She usually sneaks things in when I'm standing right there, but she's too fast! So far she's dunked some papers, a couple bath toys, her baby doll, a couple toothbrushes, her dad's cell phone, her stuffed cow.... she's also really into the toilet bowl scrubber which just grosses me out.

Not for deliberate stuff yet! : Had to retrieve stuff that accidentally fell in though. I think that's part of why she prefers the small potties now.

My daughter brought her blankie to me sopping wet this morning with bits of toilet paper all over it. She then proceeded to freak out when I wouldn't let her have her blankie back til I washed it.

Thankfully it is fleece so I could give her the blankie out of the washer rather than drying it as well since it will dry within minutes of her snuggling it.

Oh man... Ironically DS is only allowed in the bathroom with DH or myself & we're always inches away but he still manages to throw things in there, it happens so quickly!! A few highlights:

-the pair of sunglasses DS LOVED playing with (threw them out & he was very upset for a week!)
-my hairbrush (I never use it so tossed that as well)
-various toys and bath toys (usually I wash them & then douse in rubbing alcohol!)
-the computer mouse (luckily the spare I let him play with!)
-DH's hat
-his own hat

...and many more!!! And now he's also putting them in his potty too! (Which I suppose is preferrable to the toilet but still GROSSSSS!) And we have septic so we can't flush any non-waste material... Let me just say, our long-standing "if it's yellow let it mellow" policy is, um, not my favorite policy these days....

that + toddler into tossing stuff in toilets = toilet lid lock.

And I'd go ahead and get some of those chemically bleach wipes for his potty so you don't have to be the potty police.

We've had to remove the toilet and use an augur (snake) twice! Blocks and felt toys.

Last week DS himself fell into the toilet. He was peeing standing on a step stool and it slipped backward. DS fell with his arm in the toilet.

My DS also loves throwing stuff in the toilet. He did it obsessively a few months back, then stopped for awhile, but seems to be back at it just recently. Just this morning, he threw in my empty water glass. Yeah, I didn't refill it!

I've had to throw away too many toothbrushes, my hairbrush, and quite a few other things that I've lost count of! I do keep some stuff, & just wash it really well & sanitize . . . & then try really hard not to think about where it's been the next time DS sticks it in his mouth!

DD just does it when she's sitting on her own potty. But she's really deliberate about it. She actually threw one of her puzzle pieces in it this week and got a stern no from me. Well, she was in a terrorizing mood and when I was off cleaning out her potty she went and broke DH's acoustic guitar in half!!!!!! She was in a very destructive mood that day....

Nope. Not yet. Granted ds2 is only 14 months, so I suppose it could happen. But ds1 never did... Course' our bathroom is essentially off limits till they're using the potty, so maybe that helps??

A big chunk of our bathroom wallpaper and various hair clips have met their stink-watery doom, but I admit my most recent toilet-diving experience was to save a PIECE OF PINECONE.

Yes, I went toilet diving, in POOP, to save a piece of pinecone.

(It was DD's first day at a new school and her new friend gave her this "shell", and DD cried big huge crocodile tears because it was her "gift" from her new friend. So I fished it out and disinfected it with loads of soap, water, and sanitizer, only so that DD could snap it in half and hermetically seal it in 2 yards of tape. NOT WORTH IT!)

I flushed baby Jesus down the toilet as a child and have never heard the end of it!

My DD1 flushed an Abuleita mexican hot chocolate disk....needless to say it didn't flush and flooded the foyer.

DD's probably only dropped something in like, once. I think it was a golf ball.

Of course after weeks and weeks of my repeating "don't put anything in the toilet. only pee and poop and toilet paper go in the toilet. don't put anything in the toilet..." incessantly, one day I am peeing. She is in there with me as usual. I get up, lean over to flush, and my cell phone falls out of my pocket - plunk! right into the toilet. "don't drop toilet mama!"

We've had a fair share of things thrown - mostly things hanging around the bathroom (toothbrushes, toilet paper rolls, clothes taken off for a bath, bathtub toys, etc,)
What I think is worse is my DS loves, LOVES, to simply stick his hand (sometimes his whole arm) in the toilet water and swish it around - like a giant bird bath.

Ewww....

Ok, that takes the cake.

Thankfully DD has only accidentaly dropped things in there. Needless to say we're on our 4th pair of nail clippers so she is no longer allowed to have anything in her hands to play with while using the toilet.

When I was little, my dad used the snake on the stopped up toilet. He knew my little brother had flushed something down. After turning and twisting he pulled it out and discovered a big potato.

My DS when through a real phase of this. He get this look in his eye when he'd find a new object left on the floor. The look told us to jump to our feet and beat the kid to the toilet because that's exactly where the object is headed. At one point I gave up and locked the bathroom door because I hadn't bought a toilet lock.

All I remember going in there was toothbrushes, toothpaste, bath toys, toilet paper, and a few other things. The objects in the bathroom he can get in the toilet too fast. The rest, we've caught on route to the toilet- remote, cell phone, hairbrush, cup, ...

Luckily he's better now. Some things still make it but for some reason he only really wants to throw things in when I'm using the restroom, so it's very easy to stop him.

I am so happy we have a high efficiency toilet and he cannot reach the flush button on the top. I cannot imagine, dunk and flush. That'd be so much worse.

My phone. Most of the time I can catch him if he tries to chunk something in but I was putting my contacts in and couldn't see he had my phone when the next thing I hear is a splash. Blargh!

Oh yes, my phone ended up in the toilet too! After being doused with alcohol it luckily still works but I still haven't quite gotten over the 'gross' factor...
