Grandma has flaked out on us for childcare, and now we're looking for someone to take care of our 2.5 yr old DD one full day a week. We found a mom on kijiji who has a dayhome very close to our house(bonus!!), and who has an opening for the day we need. DD has never been in care outside of grandma and auntie before, so we're not sure how to screen this dayhome. What questions should I ask?? Should I take her with me to check it out and meet the mom and the other kids? Would it be unreasonable to ask to stay for a few hours one day to get a good feel about the place? I don't think this place is accredited- is that an issue? Also, any tips to get a 2 yr old transitioning comfortably would be much appreciated!
