strange rash on my 5 year old

My 5 year old daughter has a strange rash on her chest, belly, and back. It started a little over a week ago with a few pinkish/tan oval shaped spots, no wider than 1/4 inch, slightly raised. Over the course of a week they increased in number. The oldest ones are getting dry and scaby looking, but no oozing. They do not itch or hurt. In fact, she probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't pointed it out.

I took her to see a nurse practioner a few days ago and she said it might be contact dermatitis. I find this hard to believe because it doesn't itch at all. We switched detergents over a month ago, and if it was the detergent, I would think her bottom and legs would be affected to. She did wear a new t-shirt from Target a few weeks back before I had a chance to wash it, but she has never had any skin reactions to anything else before. I'm baffled.

Anyhow, the spots just seem to be increasing in number. It doesn't bother her, but it's kind of freaking me out. Any ideas?

I'm not sure, but a few friends of ours had a mystery rash recently. Low to no fever, rash on the backs of their necks and down their trunks, front and back. No other symptoms, no itchiness or pain, and it cleared up within a week. I read somewhere that a rash is one of the most common symptoms of a virus, and there are a ton of different kinds of viruses out there.
