Tandem Nursing with one ill child & a newborn

My nursing 3 year old has come down with a cold and I am afraid that my 12 week old will get it as well. Do I need to worry about her cold germs being on my nipple after she nurses and then her brother getting the germs when he nurses next? Please help! I know nursing is good for her right now, so I would like her to be able to. Thank you!

I would say keep on nursing both. The antibodies you are building up in your milk will def help out your little tiny one. In between them nursing, maybe wipe off your nipple with soap and water? I'm not sure if that is even necessary. There has to be a Mama on here that will know, or has been there, done that.

s Mama! Hope your little one is feeling better soon!!

Thanks mama! She doesn't seem too bad right now. runny nose & sneezing basically.

I e-mailed my midwife and this is what she said:

"To be prudent you could wipe you nipples off after Ella nurses. But hopefully you are actually producing antibodies against Ella's cold and Jack is getting them. Hope Ella feels better quickly!"
