Transition to potty.... not happening!

I am on my second EC child and when the weather is decent (not freezing) EC goes pretty smoothly. But, it is starting to get cold here so inevitably our potty breaks off the porch are not going to work. She is dry so much of the time and I don't want to return to wet pants and puddles on the floor. It was the same for my son. They are just not inside pee-ers. Sometimes I may get an inside pee, like first thing in the morning or after a nap. But never never poop. "Sitting" her on a potty or toilet seat results in screaming and thrashing -- no pee, no poop. Why can't I seem to make the transition with my kids? Am I doing something wrong? Pulling down pants and hanging her over a bush will get pee almost every time. I think it is going to be a long winter.

Have you tried warming the potty by running hot water into it? (flip over the bblp and pour the water into the under side)

Any chance you've got a window near a sink, tub, or ledge that a bowl could sit on?

Or a place where you could put a mirror near the above?

House plant with a largish pot and a tray underneath?

My tips at that stages is locaction, location,location.... in front of window to see the trees, in front of mirror as sapphire_chan said, also make a play station around the potty seat. Rotate toys and books often.

i agree with the location suggestions. toys and books that are just for potty time can help make it a little more fun too. you can also make (or buy) a little potty fleece or wool cover that makes the potty a warmer more comfortable place to sit. that was imperative for us, especially for the night time pottying, otherwise there's be back arching and howling. those potty seats get cold!

if they like being held, perhaps you could put a mirror or a cool poster or something behind the big toilet and hold them in arms for pottying? at least that'd get it in the right place.

At that age, mine were eager to wear slippers and babylegs (we also live in northerly climes) and I brought the potty from room to room, and they went themselves. Taking charge, so to speak. Is that a possibility? I do change their clothes / bottoms often for pretty much the whole year.

My boy (19 mos) is an outdoor pee-er too. He *will* pee inside, either on the potty (with insert) or on a BBLP (which we have scattered t/o the house). But it's just so much easier and faster to hold him off the porch, where he'll go immediately, without fail. I have to admit, I've considered buying one of these "porch" potties to get us through the winter!! http://www.porchpotty.com/

Just kidding, y'all...my husband would kill me.

that is hilarious. and it might actually work
(but... I wonder what a toddler would make of the mini-hydrant? that dog looks kind of confused)
