Is a Low Intervention Type 2 Diabetic Pregnancy/Birth Even Possible?

I'm doubting myself a lot this week and could use some reassurance and btdt. I've searched and searched here and most of the stuff I found deals with gestational diabetes, which is just not the same animal imo. Are there any moms out there who had a low-intervention pregnancy/birth as a t2 diabetic? Talk to me, about meds, about u/s, about extra testing ... what did you feel was excessive/refusable, what did you think was absolutely necessary ...

Anybody?

My homebirth midwife said that if someone was diabetic, she would definitely work with them if they were on oral meds...something like an insulin drip would be a little too much for at home. BUT...she worked with a type 1 diabetic who had an insulin pump and monitor and helped her at home. It's definitely possible, it might just depend on a few things.

Thanks, gemasita. My area has 2 hbmw's who work together (from what I understand). I sent an email to one of them a couple days ago and haven't heard anything back yet. I doubt my insurance will cover them, so we'd have to pay out-of-pocket, but it'd be SO worth it if they'd take me as a client. We'll see ....

Ha! I heard back from the mw and they will at least consider taking me on. She said they'd need to meet with me first and review ... everything. LOL Past pregnancies, medical history, diet ... which I get and am cool with. I seem to have trouble communicating that, even with our unassisted birth, I never DIDN'T want prenatal care. I just wanted some kind of say in it.

Anyway, I'd still love to hear from other t2 diabetic moms, if you're out there.

Glad you heard back! I hope your meeting with them goes well!
