How often do you replace. . .

your toilet brushes?

We've lived in this house 7 years and we have never replaced one. We have one next to every toilet, which would make 4.

Every time we move, so we've had at least 3 new ones in the past 4 years!

Yeah, another vote for only when you move... They're too gross and too cheap to bother moving.

So far, only when we move, but we have never lived anywhere for more then 5 years. I might need to rethink this...

We don't have one. We use those drop in toilet cleaning things.

So I decided to google this..lol... here's what I found on one site:

Replace your toilet scrubber less often (perhaps every six months to a year) by soaking it in bleach, rinsing it and letting it air-dry with each use. Or give the toilet scrubber a good bleach-clean and air-dry once every month.

apparently I need to replace mine!! they are several years old!!!

Pretty much never. I'm not so heavy handed that I break them. I did throw out one that was possibly as old as I am a while back. It had a wire base and the bristles were smashed to the side. It seemed like it would scratch the toilet since the wire part would rub instead of the bristles. I can't imagine replacing them every 6 months or year. What a waste!

I have never replaced mine - but mine don't get too gross. I always rinse them out before putting them away, and I sometimes soak them in the sink or even run them through the dishwasher.

OMG. I still have the same one that I bought when I finally got my own place 15 years ago. The ones my husband brought to the relationship are probably even older.

ours is new (from when we moved here), but after every use, i do a soak and then let it air dry (in the sun if the sun is out).

i tend to replace them every two or three years, because they seem to wear out by then. my next batch, i'm going to go with non-plastic ones. I don't know how long those will last, but we shall see.

We have one next to each toilet, and I buy 1 each time we go to Ikea (about once a year), and the one that is in the worst shape gets replaced.
I threw mine out and never replaced it. I've never been a big fan of having one next to the toilet. Not very pretty IMO. And even though I used to soak it in bleach often the thing was just dirty. Now I use a cloth and wash it with my cloth TP.

I've never owned one.... I don't think my mother ever used one, but hoenstly don't remember. Just just good old fashion elbow grease and a scrubbie sponge.

I've used them in the past at various places along my life, but not often, as I think it's way more trouble than it's worth.

This. And I don't trust the "every 6 months" people. Sounds like the site is a a front for the toilet bowl brush industry!

When it starts to look nasty. I will try the bleach thing though, that sounds like a good idea.
I don't, really. If it gets nasty, I'll wash it, and bleach if necessary. It's not like I'm going to use it to cook-- who the heck really cares if it's "not so fresh"? I use it to clean dirty toilets.

I do think though that you can keep it from getting nasty at all by making sure to rinse it and let it dry out, before putting it away in any kind of container.
