If he is night waking and in distress, i would look to other alternatives. I do believe those are 2 side effect symptoms and totally cancel out any positive respiratory benefits. Good luck, momma.

Our allergist recommended Singulair for DD's severe food allegies, and after researching I said no way. When I told him, he even admitted that he's had to pull a lot of kids off it because of side effects.

He then suggested we try Gastrocrom instead (in pill form; but they also have an inhaler form.) He said nobody really uses it any more, but it used to be the standard med for asthma before all these new drugs came out. And he's never seen a side effect from it. It's also potentially not as effective, but it might be worth a try if you're seeing the side effects already from singulair. (We haven't tried the gastrocrom yet... I'm still conflicted on giving DD any meds. So I can't speak to it's effectiveness, only what our allergist told us.)

7 yr old DSD has been on Singulair for the past 18 months. Before that, she used inhalers only and was in and out of the hospital with HORRIBLE asthma attacks. She has only needed to use her inhaler once in the last 18 months since starting Singulair. She does have bad dreams, but we aren't sure if they are due to the medicine, or just normal bad dreams that kids get. We have asked her if she would like to try going off the medicine to see if the bad dreams stop, but she says she would rather stay on the medicine, and be able to breathe.
