The prices I'm finding is $300 for 180 days. That would be $600 for slightly under a year (assuming you need to pump from day 1). You'd have to buy the 'kit' ($36.63 on Amazon) but would still be only about half the cost of getting one new.

Yup.

They run for about $600 used on craigslist it seems. I will rent one if I have to, and it looks like the cheapest price around here is $55/mo if I rent it long term...so, in the end, it's cheaper to just buy it, even if I only pumped for a year but chances are I will want to pump longer. But I will rent one if I need to.
I talked to the baby's father the other day about it, and he basically said that it wasn't an important thing. After I got off the phone with him, I realised that I can tell him I'll sign a contract stating that I'll sell it again after I'm done with it and give him the money back, so it will essentially cost nothing. That said, I doubt he'll do it. I'm sure he'd rather spend the $600 to provide himself with alcohol than to provide our child with breastmilk.
