Can I have a Big Sisters party?

After dd2 was born I had a playdate type gathering, and a cake picked out by dd1. It said Congratulations you are a big sister. No gifts or anything, some refreshments and finger foods. dd1 got a few stickers etc...but no really big gifts.

Now I am having baby number 3. Can I have a party for both the big sisters and let them pick a cake? No gifts....just an opportunity to see new baby and the big sisters.

What do you all think?

That sounds like so much fun, what a great idea!

I usually get a present for the older kids "from the baby" - something small like a book, puzzle, or inexpensive toy - but I have never thought to through a Big Sibs party. I bet they really appreciate that.

i think that would be great. actually i think i might do something like that with the my boy as this is number 3 for me too!.

I think it would be great for them to celebrate them getting their roles in the family and to celebrate them too! just so everything isn't about the baby

I like this idea, but wonder how you do it so it doesn't just become a gathering where everyone ooohs and aaaahs over the baby the whole time? I mean, that seems to defeat the purpose of having something special for the big sib, no? I suppose since my ds is 6 I can see a lot of his friends being quite excited to meet the baby but then the focus is on the baby? Def intrigued by the idea though!!
