Family Responses... not what we imagined

Well, you can never tell can you?

We recently told our families that we would be pursuing an adoption. One we expected to be accepting and happy, the other we thought wouldn't be too happy or accepting... the odd thing was that it was the reverse.

My mom was fine, it was just my dad who was coming up with all these "well intentioned" comments that were really just defensiveness and trying to find fault with every thing. Irr...

Then my dh's parents who we thought would have issues with it were so happy, my MIL said, "Well we've been seeing this come for a long time and know you are doing what is right." They asked very sincere and good questions.

It's disappointing when you aren't supported by family on one of your most joyous life events. Continue to seek out those that support you!

We've told one set of grandparents but not the other. I hope we're surprised by their reaction, because I'm thinking it will be Armageddon Lite.

Congratulations on taking that step!!!

"armageddon lite" Bwahahahahaa!!!!

My in-laws were... shall we say... a little less than thrilled.

Kinda sucks. But you do it anyway 'cause it's your kiddo, not theirs.

There's a section in the current issue of Adoptive Families magazine that is all about talking to your friends and family about you adoption plans as well as a segment on "dealing with skeptics".
