contractions

I'm 20 weeks along and I've been having some somewhat strong contractions. I went to see my midwife today and while checking the uterus and baby she said my contraction was pretty strong. I've had some sort bug this past week and havent' been able to eat much at all so i"m guessing that's what causing the contractions. I was told just to take it easy and relax until I'm feeling normal again.

I can feel my uterus tightening up often should I be concerned about this?

Braxton Hicks? Take it easy, drink lots of fluids, and if you notice something that makes them stronger (in my case, chocolate or coffee), avoid it if you can. I'm having some really strong ones as well- the other day at work, I had one that, during it, I actually considered the thought that I might actually be beginning labor, it almost brought me to my knees- but my OB tells me that unless they become regular or unless they are more than 3 an hour, it's probably not something to worry about. Having one right now, actually. Instead of NAK, can I write BHAK?

Of course, if you're ever in doubt, call your midwife or doctor immediately.

Thanks for the reply I guess because I'm not feeling well and not able to eat much since wednesday I'm feeling more concerned about it. My midwife told me just to relax and stay hydrated so we will see

I had the same problem when I was 21 weeks. I went to L&D because they were pretty consistent. It ended up that I was dehydrated. As long as I stay really hydrated I don't get a ton of braxton hicks.

It was unnerving though I had never had that happen in my previous pregnancies.

I was having the same issues around 20/21 weeks. I have also been spotting from a marginal previa. My mw was concerned and told me to stay hydrated and take it easy. I got helpful advice here that it's not uncommon to get bh contractions this early. I was told by my mw if they continue and I get more than 4 in 1 hour to call. So far so good.
