likes to be cold????

Hi everyone! I'm new to this board :s::
So this is weird. Does anyone elses toddler like to be a little on the cold side?? Like when they are sleeping?? I lie in coastal southern california and so it's not like it gets freezing but lately it's been nippy and Darien (20 months) only wants to sleep in shorts and MAYBE a short sleeved shirt. When he wakes up to nurse he is rather cold to the touch. But then I try and dress him or put blankets on him and he gets so mad and kicks them all off! It's kinda different. My husband said he is the same way... though I guess I've never noticed. I'm just really sensitive to the cold... maybe that's it. :::

YES! My DS is like this too, especially when sleeping (exactly what you describe, plus he won't sleep with socks or feet pajamas or a shirt!) -- and now that it's getting colder outside, I put a jacket on him before we leave the house & he rips it off before we're even out the door (and I'll be still shivering with 3 layers on!)

my oldest, who is now 9 was like that as a toddler. Couldn't get him to keep socks and shoes on, ever. He wouldn't wear a jacket outside .

He was very busy and active, constantly going... He will now wear footed pjs and a jacket. So his body has adjusted.

My DH and DD both prefer being cool (=Brrrrr COLD for me!) probably because they both are really warm to the touch all. the. time. Usually DH will sleep in boxers & short sleeve tee when I'm in long sleeve PJs or sweats. DD usually sleeps in PJs with no covers. I just leave it upto them. DD is pretty good about layering if she really is cold. So I leave her alone even though it gives me chills to look at my DD running around the house naked.

My DS (28 months) is the same way. It could be freezing and all he wants to sleep in is his diaper. His feet and hands are so cold to the touch sometimes, but he seems to be happier when he isn't constricted by so many clothes.

I don't know how this relates to your question, but I read somewhere that toddlers can not regulate their body heat as well as we adults. Maybe it means that their body becomes the temperature of the environment, so maybe the coldness doesn't bother them as much. Just my silly hypothesis...

Bonnie I just laughed my head off (but I put it back on to type this) when I saw the nursing smiley. LOL!!! I'm sure it's really common but I am new here and have never seen it. Where does one get such a fantastic thing????

Glad you like it! MDC provides the smileys... but truth is, I created my signature so long ago, I don't remember how to get back to the create siggy page!

I think you go into "my account" and then "my signature" and then you can create or edit your signature.

By the way, welcome to MDC!

i also think it could be a personality thread. my toddler is 8 now and even at 32 degrees with no heat she prefers no clothes on her at night. she will use the blanket as she needs.

i learnt my lesson though. i forced her to put on her jacket once (outdoors 23 degs) and her cheeks were red from being hot in less than 5 minss
