Homebirth in Backup Plan

What did you all think of this? My kids are older so I'm really out of the birthing community now, but I did have home waterbirths. I know they were poking fun, and part of me felt like I should be offended, but I thought those were the only funny parts in the movie (where they were also making fun of nursing older children, which I also did). I was laughing so hard. I guess I still just loved the fact that those were shown in a movie at all. I also thought it was interesting that it was the woman from The Gilmore Girls who had a homebirth (and then a hospital one for no apparent reason). Anyway, I wondered if the woman who wrote the script does kind of support these things because it was also all about sustainable farming and that was not supposed to be funny. What did you all think?

Hmm. Well, I thought of posting this in the media section but was really only interested in the opinions of other homebirthers, since it's making fun of them/us. I'm not really wanting outside opinions since so many people are already so weird about homebirth. But maybe none of you saw The Backup Plan. If not, I don't blame you. It wasn't very good. lol

I didn't see it. I can't stand to see stuff that's currently important to be shown in most media, so I avoid pregnancy/birth/baby movies in general. And every reviewing hated that movie

I laughed but hoped that the women I was with(girls night) wouldn't think that is how it always goes down. It was a nice spring board for a conversation in the parking lot afterward. They wanted to know how I felt about it and I was able to say that although it was funny, doulas do more than beat drums and not everyone makes sounds like a goat being tortured. Fun to see the fishie pool make a movie debut though.

lol! Yes, the fishie pool *and* the fish net to get the poop out! I did laugh really hard at the baaing like a sheep/goat -- that was so over the top that hopefully everyone would know that's not realistic.

Me too! I usually can't stand them. I couldn't stand this one either but the homebirth stuff and nursing a three year old was great. The kid looked older than three than me though and I wished they would've said the kid was five or something. I think three is still so young! lol
