I Bit My Tongue

I feel like a total wienie, but I am really in pain. 6 days ago, I must have had a seizure during the night. I got a black eye, several huge bruises, but the bite on my tongue is the worst of it. Over one inch long along the whole side; it has closed to 1/3 inch wide, but it is still swollen half way across my tongue.

I probably should have had it stitched, but a dr or ER visit is out of the question. I am taking aspirin for the pain and swelling. I have tried Oro-gel to numb it enough so I can eat (not much luck there) and I am taking echinacea because I also feel like I am coming down with the flu (mainly just body aches, and tired; started before this episode).

At times, this it the worst pain I have ever felt. You would be surprised how often the tongue is used - swallowing, sipping through a straw, talking, coughing and sneezing.

I would welcome any suggestions, remedies, or pity.Or BTDT stories - will this ever heal?

btdt - afew times thanks to seizures i had a few years ago. it will heal but will take several days. i pretty much consumed liquids and some baby food fruits. take care!

DD1 bit her tongue badly a few years ago-- she had a flap that was hanging a bit-- it looked awful. They elected not to stitch. It hurt like heck for a few days-- I was advised to have her rinse with clean cold water after every time she ate, and any other time she felt she needed to. The pain was gone by about five days-- mouths heal very quickly.

I wish now that we'd had it stitched. It mostly healed, but now two years later, there's still a little opening where it hasn't closed all the way.

Honestly-- you say the doctor is out of the question. But if I'd had what seemed like a seizure, and was now having flu-like symptoms, I think I'd be looking for medical attention.
