Night-time diapering - I need tips!

Our routine with DS (same as we had with DD), is to use a combo of prefolds and fitteds during the day, but at night he is in a disposable (unbleached, "natural" brand, but still a disposable). I don't like this very much, as I would rather do cloth all the time, especially since this past week we've had leaks EVERY NIGHT with those darn disposables, and I'm sick of changing the sheets every day!

At the same time, since he's a big night-pee-er, I'm afraid that he'll keep waking up if we use cloth at night and he's wet all the time. I'd like to minimize night-time diaper changes (most nights I don't change him at night, and if I do, it's only once), since one of the reasons we co-sleep is due to laziness so I don't have to get out of bed. (Don't burn me at the stake about this please!)

How do you cloth-users do it at night? How thick is your diaper? Is the baby's bum higher than his head since the diaper is so thick ? Can I use fitteds and prefolds, or do I have to get some other kinds? Do you have leaks? Are your babies waking up often? Any other tips?

We use BG pockets at night. Just in the past couple of weeks she has started being a heavier pee-er so I am using a hemp insert. That way, its not so bulky, but its super absorbant.

I dont have any, but from what I understand the AIO's are good for overnight.

When I CD'd my son, he was around two, and he seemed to do great overnight in some bulkier diapers--didn't matter that they were bulky since he was just sleeping in them, not running around or having to fit regular clothes over them.

I want to say that the diapers I had (they were handed down to me) were Luke's drawers. They had a fleece liner that laid on top (inside) that kept his skin dry, and they were REALLY absorbent.

I think it might be worth investing in some good cloth dipes that you use just for night time (you'd only need a couple at most, depending on how often you do laundry, since you'd only be using one a day)... and it's ok if they're bulky since they're just sleeping in it. I really wish I had kept those diapers! Not leaking after all night with a 2 year old is pretty impressive.

Sometimes we use sposies at night when our cloth nighttime dipes are all in the wash. Our cloth nighttime diaper is a Best Bottoms shell w/an overnight+hemp inserts. Never had a leak, thanks to the great leg gussets. It is also a very trim diaper, as nighttime cloth diapering goes. I have one shell, two overnight inserts and 4 hemp. So if I don't wash every other day we use a sposie.

We use a happy hempy w 2 pfs, a hemparoo and a loopydo. It is quite bulky, but its the only thing to get us through the night. We cover w babyology wool.

The HH has a stay dry inner, so he doesnt feel wet. And he's usually in it for at least 12 hrs.

We use FuzziBunz pocket diapers with a hemp doubler for overnights. I only change my DD once, sometimes not at all during the night, and we don't have any leak issues. And the micro-fleece inner will help keep baby feeling drier than natural fibers. The urine gets wicked away from baby's skin and is absorbed by the microfiber insert (or whatever you want to stuff the diaper with). And the hemp doubler is very thin, but very absorbent, so you your LO won't have that "bum that is higher than his head" effect. You can read more about them here: www.fuzzibunz.com, and I buy them here: www.fuzzibunzstore.com because they have free shipping (no minimum), fast shipping, and they're very up-to-date with all the sales and products. HTH!

Well, I've been trying all-cloth at night and I have to say, I'm loving it!  Not a single leak, which astounded me, since it's pretty sopping wet in the morning.  Now I just have to find an old fleece blanket to cut up to put inside the diapers to wick the moisture away from DS's skin...

I use a fitted diaper, with two inserts (since I don't have any AIOs or pocket diapers, and don't want to spend any more $ on diapers!), and then a prefold over that, and wrap it all up nicely with a Whisper Wrap.  He looks like a little tripod when he's sitting up (just before bed), and on the plus side, his independent sitting skills have greatly improved lately.  ROTFLMAO.gif

Thanks again, everyone, for the encouragement!

I'm still trying to figure this out to. I've only been CD'ing for a few days now. I think tonight I'll try a fitted diaper for overnight since it covers more and is closed an should prevent any poop from leaking out onto the covers.

I use a Fuzzi Bunz that I double up, she stays in it for about 9 hours. No loaks sofar.

I could be off-base, since I've never used a "green" sposie, but I've heard that they aren't the most absorbant things in the world. IMO, if you're gonna use a sposie, use a sposie. You're gonna use it for it's super absorbancy and stay-dry properties, which come from chemicals. If you don't want the chemicals, just use a CD. Anyhow-- just my take on that. :)

Personally I'm at a point now where we're using a pampers sposie at night under an econobum or thirsties cover. We don't ever have a leak. Of course, it means using a sposie at night, so I still have to buy sposies. But a jumbo pack will last me a whole month, so it's not so bad. If I could find a solution with the cloth stash that I have now though, I'd prefer that. I just haven't been able to yet, and I can't afford any more diapers right now. My little one also sleeps up to 12 hours straight at night.
