DD is 2.5 and all of a sudden nipple pain?

she has always nursed constantly, but now all of a sudden both nipples hurt. nipples look red after nursing (nak, sorry it sounds like i'm typing a telegram!). her latch doesn't look any different. only thing i can think of is that she's pulling away a bit as she nurses. if i try to push the breast up closer, she just pulls away more.

thoughts? could i be sensitive if my period is about to return? i havn't gotten it yet.

I would definitely expect your period soon. At a minimum it sounds like your hormones are shifting, even if you don't actually get your period. I have had 2 post partum periods now and with both of them my nipples got extremely sore just before.

My nipples get really sensitive both at ovulation and about the two days before AF shows up. I think my supply dips at those points too, b/c it seems like DS has to nurse more, more, more when I most don't want to!

you guys were right, i got AF yesterday. the soreness disappeared about a week ago too, so probably ovulation?

This is my 3rd month in a row of extreme nipple soreness at ovultion time, so I just went and bought some Evening Primrose Oil, hoping that taking 500 mg once a day will help decrease it. I read about it on kellymom.com, so hopefully next month will be less tender!
