blacking out for a few seconds at a time

Has this happened to anyone. It's been happening more and more frequently to me. My LO is 9mths and we are still nursing. I generally feel run down and sometimes fluish. But I've been having these black outs - they happen so fast. It's like a split second and I feel like a just kinda blacked out and missed a beat. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas what this is?

I'm going to move this to Health and Healing because it seems like a health issue more than a breastfeedng one.

That said, is this a new symptom? I have juvenile partial clonic seizures and it sounds a lot like what happens to me. It's worse when I am tired or stress, and it started when I was in the eighth grade.

This is something worth visiting a doctor about! I've blacked out before, but usually it's when I have a migraine and am exerting myself to much.

Yes, I second the doctor.

Could you have low blood sugar? A quick help when you are starting to feel light headed is to squat down and that should help it pass (hopefully). That won't fix your problem though, just help temporarily.

I used to have borderline low blood pressure and when I would stand or sit up too fast I would sometimes black out.

Are you sitting or standing when these blackouts happen? Either way, imho, fainting or even a very quick black out without already knowing the cause *always* warrants a call to your doctor.

In addition to seizures and blood pressure, heart issues or narcolepsy can cause blackouts. Make sure they check your heart. I'd see a doctor as soon as I possibly could...and I would have someone else drive me.

I was having this! I was having absence seizures where I would just space out or a second or two at a time and just stare into space. Towards the end, I actually had a more severe seizure, a simple partial seizure. (Weirdest, freakiest experience of my life!) I got in for chiropractic care a week after that and it helped a lot. I had had a lot of trauma to neck my and the vertebrae there were really out of alignment, which can kind of pinch the nerves to the brain, lead to seizures and abnormal electrical activity in the brain. For me, I felt an improvement after my first adjustment. I don't have blackouts any more now. I really, recommend seeing a good chiropractor for this. You need a traditional chiropractor who corrects vertebral subluxations and doesn't just do spinal decompression. The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association is a good place to look- www.icpa4kids.org (The chiropractors are all trained in pediatric chiropractic, but most of them will treat adults as well.)
