I've watched it out of curiosity and because I've always liked Tom Sellick - not just for obvious reasons, but because I think he can carry a show with a nice mix of drama and comedy.
I think they writers are wasting the talent on the show. They haven't hit their stride yet with anything really new about police procedurals or family dramas. So far the characters are pretty one-dimensional. I don't think the actors are being given a lot to work with.
Len Cariou is a Tony award winning actor, but mostly he sits in a chair and mutters a line about "In the good ol' days..."
Tom Sellick has yet to exercise the sly humour and light touch that made Magnum different from routine crime procedural shows and such a long-term success.
Bridget Moynihan is capable of much better work too, but she and the other women on the show are mostly background features. I suspect the "right-hand help" who is at Sellick's side in the office could have an interesting back story.
Don Wahlberg is just a rolling ball of fury and the baby brother rookie walks around looking confused or surprised all the time.
I like the concept of the show. I really hope that they have a full season to develop the characters and show off the talent a little. A storyline that isn't just a re-hash from Law & Order or all the other police shows that preceded it would help.

I would have written more last night, but my toddler did NOT want me on the computer anymore.
I like it because it just sticks to straight cop/family stuff. I hate CSI/Law & Order. I don't like to see bodies/gross stuff. I don't want someone to die or be raped in every episode. I like that this kind of glosses over that. And, I actually really like Donnie Wahlberg in this. And well, Tom Selleck is Tom Selleck.

Ya, I'm not big on cop shows, in fact I rarely watch them. I have never watched CSI, I just have no interest in the crime solving or prosecution a la Law and Order. The only other law type show I watch is The Good Wife and I also watch that for the family and personal relationships not the law cases.
I forgot I do watch Justified, but it's on hiatus so I didn't think about it. But again, that one is a lot about the relationships because all the criminals are childhood friends or family LOL and well Timothy Olyphant 'nuff said LOL
