I think my body is quitting :( Lack of let down and low supply--help!

My DS is 14 months old. He was previously nursing 5x a day, I had a very good supply, quick and easy let down (within about 30 seconds).

Then I went away to a wedding out of the country for 4 days, left DS home with DH, and I pumped twice a day. It might not have been enough I guess. I never did feel engorged or leaky at all, but I figured that was because DS was older and wasn't nursing alot like an infant.

When I got home, DS picked right back up with nursing just fine--but my body did not. It's been a week, and I can feel my supply decreasing each day, and I've only felt my milk let down a few times. The last couple days I haven't felt it let down at all (and I always could feel it prior to the trip). Now DS sucks for like 2 minutes with those quick fluttery motions like he is trying to initiate let down, but I don't see/hear him doing any big swallows like he is drinking. Just small ones every few suckles, like it is possibly just saliva.

I can squeeze my breast and milk does come out in dribbles, but not like it used to.

I started taking Fenugreek 48 hours ago. I'm drinking a bunch of water, trying to relax, focus on the sight, smell, touch of DS, but I feel nothing happening. I feel like my body has performance anxiety .

HELP! Have I just totally sabotaged our nursing relationship? I'm not ready for this to be over, especially with cold and flu season upon us! I feel like can probably get my supply up eventually (I hope!) but how on earth can I get the let-down response to start happening again? Will it go better once my supply gets back up?

If your son seems fine with the situation, I would try not to worry. When my son was at the end of his nursing time, he told me there was still milk in there, even though to me, it seemed like there was nothing.

I think if he really needs to nurse, he will continue and your supply will pick up naturally with continued nursing if your son really needs the milk. It is also possible that he needs the sucking but if he is getting other nutrition, your supply will be lower.

Perhaps he is nearly ready to wean. Try and follow his lead. If he is really unhappy with the situation, you will know it.
