IHIP-Sent, but no reply???

So we moved to a very small town. I sent in my IHIP over a month ago and have not heard back from the school. I did call the school and the secretary said that they had a change of administration and put it on the "back burner". (Her words not mine.) Well that was 2 weeks ago. I also have 2 children in the school and have gone to their Board of Education meetings. I even talked with the superintendent in Walmart but not about my IHIP. (I am telling you this is a small town!) Should I call again, or just send in my quarterly reports and forget about it? I don't want to stick out, but on the other hand I am a little nervous about not having that paper saying everything is fine. Also I wanted to get a discount card at a bookstore, and they said I needed the letter to prove I homeschooled.

This is the first time this has happened to me. Usually they are threatening me because I am late with my quarterly.lols I live in NY state and the law here says they HAVE to respond in 10 days. I guess here in the country we bend the rules.

Whether the school replies to or acknowledges your paperwork or not, it is always best to send it in, as if they are fulfilling their part of the process. So letter of intent by July 1, IHIP at least by their start of school, quarterly reports on the schedule you have outlined in your IHIP (you can follow their report card schedule if you like), and annual assessment by June 30, which is the close of the school year.

You have 2 choices:
1) Walk it in to their office. Have 2 copies, one for them, and one for you. Ask the secretary to either sign your copy, or stamp it with the official office stamp. Then you have proof that you have complied with the regs.

2) Send it certified mail.

Yours is not an uncommon problem. Their are plenty of districts in NY that simply don't do what they are supposed to, or ask for more than they are entitled to have under the law. You just need to do your best to have a paper trail that shows YOU were trying to comply. Good luck!

Who is the person in your district who handles the homeschooling paperwork? I would nail down a time to pick up a letter from them. You could even let it know that you need a letter for the bookstore to get a discount on your homeschooling books.
