IUD's & Infections[mainly Yeast]

I do not have an IUD at this time. However, If we have another baby, I was thinking about getting this put in at my PP checkup. I almost got a Mirena after I had my son, but at the last minute, opted for the mini pill instead, which I only lasted for about 10 months on after stopping it due to major mood swings and breakthrough bleeding.

I have heard alot of people that really love their IUD's and I like the fact that I dont have to worry about taking a pill or what not. The only thing I dont like about it, is that its really like a foreign object to your body and sometimes because of that it can cause infections. I am really prone to yeast infections in general. I get them at least 3-5 times a year. And, they seem to have gotten more frequent since having my son. I have had yeast infections before I had my son, but rarely, like once a year or once every few years But, since I had him, I have seem to be more prone to them in general. Which is a bummer. I hear that IUD's can make people more likely to get yeast infections in general, so Im sort of worried about that. I truly do not want to have to get them anymore frequently then I already am.

What has been your experience? I have very regular periods otherwise and ovulate each cycle. [I know that cause I chart].

Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

I had a Mirena for almost 5 years and never got an infection of any kind. I loved it completely- no periods, no hormonal effects (and I had been too sensitive to take BCP) no bloat, no anything. I loved no having my period, but understand some women don't like that.
Good luck with your choice!

I had my Mirena removed for this very reason about six months ago. I had it put in a couple of months after ds was born. I was fine the first year and I loved not having a period. The second year I kept getting infections - bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections. They never ended and I was miserable. I decided that it needed to come out! The day I had it taken out whatever infection I had at the time immediately disappeared and I haven't had another one since! I will never use an IUD ever again. Right now I am taking birth control pills. I really do not like them, but it is much better than always having an infection.
