How to plant this?

A few weeks ago I bought a bunch of basil from the farmer's market, stuck it in a glass vase with water to freshen up and I've been using a branch or two at a time. I noticed several branches have sprouted roots.

I want to pot them in soil. Is there a special procedure for that? Do I just bury the last couple of inches of the branches in potting soil? Keep it really moist or not? I'm wondering because these branches have been sitting in water like a bouquet of flowers, so will they be traumatized by the transfer from water to soil?

There are five of these rooted branches. Do I plant them all in one pot or separately?

I've done this before with spider plants, but not with basil. It's worth a try. Can you cut off the tops a bit before putting them in soil so they don't topple over? You can always experiment and see.

Good point. They are kinda tall and top heavy.

yes, I do this with many many perennial herbs including basil.

just put them in a pot of light loose soil and "mound" up around the stems until they are stable.

You can plant them individually or all together, but if you separate them (try not to break any of the tender rootlings), they will eventually spread and take over their own pots (= more basil in time due to more room for each plant).

enjoy!
