Day 4 no poop

DS just recently started eating more solids, and is on day 4 of no poop. He seems to be straining at times and will just have a little teeny bit of poop in his diaper, but just a stain. He's usually a 1-2 time a day pooper.

I remember my dd getting more constipated once solids were introduced and I also remember doing glycerin suppositories from time to time with her. I just don't remember how long I let it go before I tried a suppository...

Thoughts?

ETA: I've been giving him pears and prunes and lots of water the past few days too.

I have lots of posts on this issue- we are having baby constipation too. He was going every 4-5 days and I didn't try the suppositories till he didn't go 8 days! It worked- now I just don't know- we are trying to figure this whole thing out too. But I would say go for the glycerine

My naturopath told me when preparing foods for dd to add a bit of organic butter or olive oil. The fats will bulk up the stool so it can pass easily. Plus no rice cereal, just veggies and fruits until a year. It helped after my dd was extremely constipated.

It always helped if I made sure dd was standing or if I held her over the toilet, tucking her knees up high. But if he were straining and you coudl see the poop is large and just not coming out, I would try the glycerine.

Is he uncomfortable? When DD was constipated and uncomfortable (day and night, making her sleep even crappier) we backed way off and are ramping up slowly. She seems to be doing much better now, a few weeks later and slower with the solids. Maybe his system isn't quite ready for that quantity?

Well, the poop river has started to flow...

I'll try the olive oil idea when he's eating more foods.

TH: He's had an increased interest in foods but maybe it was more than he needed... and yes, the sleep has been awwwwful.

The no grains until over a year thing is really helpful for constipation issues. If he sticks to fruits and veg, it will really help keep his bowels regulated.
