is my baby sleeping too much?

my DS is 5 weeks old and he's just in the last week started sleeping almost constantly, for 5 hour stretches. sometimes I have to wake him up to nurse because I'm getting all swollen and lumpy. is this normal? should I be worried? I don't want to complain about all the sleep I get with him sleeping so well at night, but... I kinda miss him. He sleeps all the time, only wakes up to get his diaper changed or eat for a few mins, then falls right back to sleep. And he's never happy when he's awake, he just makes squeaky noises till I nurse him down again. And usually arount 7pm he wakes up and has a total meltdown for about an hour, then the cycle begins again.

what's up?

Get ready for a growth spurt! It totally changes constantly for me. Baby will be sleeping consantly for a few days and then she'll have a few VERY awake days where she eats constantly. My babe is 7 weeks.

As long as he's gaining enough weight and has plenty of wet and poopy diapers...let him sleep. But if he's not gaining ( around an ounce a day) then you might want to wake him up at the 3 hour mark.

good luck!

every babe is different im thinking he just has high sleep needs. once hes a few months old you can decifer his personality. he may end up being a "grumpy" baby, which is fine just a temperment. DD is very spirted and would never sleep...ever...shes 12 m/o now and sleeping more than she ever did lol. shes an amazing child but had her challenges b/c of her temperment but i just embrace her for all she is KWIM? im not saying this is you're case but you never know. good luck and dont worry.

i would try not to nurse him at night if hes cool with it. you're breasts will adjust. as long as hes healthy why cant you get some rest too? id go for it!
