As for yogurt, my BIL is on the diet for Crohn's so his wife just bought a yogurt maker. Seems to make the whole thing a lot easier and if we end up back on the diet, I'm buying one!
Eating out was seriously the biggest struggle and I wasn't even on the diet! You could order a hamburger if you make sure it's 100% beef, no bun, but then I'm not sure what you could eat as a side. Or just go out with friends and have (the ever boring) water! Oh, and my BIL can handle certain wines, so you could enjoy that at some point (he's been on the diet a year or so, I think.)
What sypmtoms are you having? IMO, the SCD is a last resort. Have you had any testing done to determine if you're suffering from a bowel disease/allergic reaction?
Good luck! It's not fun, but you get used to it!

Yeah, that's what I feel like it's gonna be like, not that fun. But on the upside, I will be eating a ton more fruits and veggies and I have a good excuse to have steak a lot!
I know this is the last resort, but really, from everything the book talks about, this is where I'm at, in that vicious cycle of digestive issues that can't be fixed because I can't absorb anything. I have had allergy testing and my tests showed that I had gluten antibodies in my gut, but not my blood. So, I've been GF for a little over a month and at first I felt great and had energy for the first time in years, but now it has sort of reverted back, so I know there's something more than GF going on. All the other allergy tests came back fine - soy, dairy, eggs, corn. The other thing is that I am really underweight and not by choice. I have been trying like mad to gain weight and I just can't. So it is clear to me that this absorption thing is a problem. I wouldn't be shocked if I was diagnosed with Chron's, but at this point, I don't really need the diagnosis to move forward. IF I have Chron's, I'd be doing the SCD diet anyway, so this just seems like a good overall thing to do. I'm hoping I don't have to do it for an extended time but just enough to get my gut healthy again (I have no idea how long that will be, I haven't gotten to that part of the book yet!).
A few questions now that I'm in it: How strict do I have to be with this? I plan on being very strict, but if one night I am out with family and cannot eat my normal stuff, if I have one part of the meal that isn't SCD friendly, will it ruin EVERYTHING? Or, am I still doing myself a favor by even doing any SCD at all? And, did you find that your son's meat consumption skyrocketed? I do like meat, but I don't want to be eating a predominantly meat-based diet. Reminds me, I gotta soak my lentils tonight so I can have something non meat-based tomorrow.
I went shopping tonight and got so depressed as I passed aisles upon aisles of food that I cannot have. I can't even have gluten free stuff anymore. I can't even have hummus for the love of god. But, at this point, I am willing to do whatever it takes to really and truly get a healthy gut, so I can hang for a while (I hope!), but definitely couldn't do this forever.
I'm hoping there's someone out there whose got a really positive, inspirational story about how they did this for like 6 months (or 3 would be even better!) and then felt 100% better and can now eat whatever they want and are healthy. Are you out there?!!
