Internet accountability thread-update question in post 19

I know this seems completely ridiculous to have an internet accountibility thread here on the internet and frankly, I'm ashamed to admit that I need one. But those other threads like track your spending and track what you have accomplished today are helping me out so I thought this might too. I was thinking I would come everyday or so and track my total internet time and maybe it would help me to realize how much I really AM on this thing? I think I spend more time here than I realize.

Does this sound like a dumb idea or would this be helpful to someone else too?

By the way I would need to start tomorrow because I have NO idea how much time I have spent here today. BAD!

I have the same issue. I found for a few days there I was on here 4-5x a day then surprised nothing else has gotten done. I'm trying to get down to 1-2x but even then I'm like "do I really need to?"

I guess for me I'm so against DS watching tv more than 1-2 hours every 1-2 weeks that I don't want to zone in front of the TV so instead I zone on here KWIM?

I really wouldn't know how to go about an accountability thread though as I never have done one before...

My thought was to start a stopwatch when I get online and really track how long I am. All the little bits throughout the day. And then come here and report back. I am so scared to see how long it really is. But then, maybe if I am monitoring, I won't be on for as long as usual. I have no plans the next couple of days so maybe I better make some!

Ok the stopwatch for this morning says 37 minutes. That was with a couple minute break to clean up cat puke! Now I am off to make breakfast and play cards with ds.

Tracking is actually an effective way of cutting down. People who smoke and over eat how been found in study after study to self regulate better when they have to write it down. Its actually one of the most effective ways to quit smoking, (tied with a step down pattern)

Not that you'll quit the computer
I have 10 mins today.

I'm in! Don't have a stopwatch though, unless there is one on my phone. I am also guilty of coming on here for a "few minutes" 4 or 5x a day, but sometimes I get sucked into things on here or on facebook and it ends up being much longer.

I'll check my phone and check back in here.

Y'all know about Leechblock, right?

It is a free Mozilla add-on. It tracks time used per day AND allows you to set limits. You can set web sites in groups, so MDC can be in the same group as diaperswappers, ratemybaby.com, and justinbieberfansite.com. (or whatever)

i SO need this thread. i WAH to prep for a class i teach and often spend more time surfing online than working on my class! and i hate how much time i spend just reading threads and hanging out on facebook. you know its a problem when someone else walks in the room and you imeddiately fake that you were looking at something not FB,or MDC or TBW. like i don't want anyone else ot know how much time i spend online.

Leechblock? Hmmm...I've been using Google Chrome. Maybe I"ll have to switch. I'm using http://www.online-stopwatch.com/ to track my usage. Although it's hard because I just talked to DP for 10 minutes while I was sorta online and then I got up and did something for DS. So I guess it's not totally accurate.

I'm totally in. My internet usage is through the roof. One issue is that dd likes to nurse during her nap, so I just just sit and surf while she sleeps. I guess I should just read a book instead!

I think I actually need an MDC accountability thread! I do need to be on the internet for other things, like job hunting, and doing other research. I may consider Leechblock. . . .but my computer is 10 years old and so slow without another program running. . .

Ive been thinking this and was gunna start this thread, but I changed my mind. I finally found something I like to do and it's like having 100 instant pen pals who are smart and cool. I do think Im going a little overboard though and need to limit it.

That's so funny! I know MDC is like having people in the room and it makes me feel not so lonely. However, I am sure there is a happy medium and that's what I need to find. Yesterday I went to my mom's for the night so I wasn't online there or this morning.

20. so far I am watching the Biggest Loser (don't have cable) so I guess that counts because I'm here and facebook at the same time!

Ok, so I watched the Biggest Loser this am which was about 1hr 15min, but I also surfed a bit in there and folded laundry. Other than that, I was on for another hour later in bits and pieces throughout the day. Interesting. It feels like so much more time, but maybe I'm doing ok? I think I"ll keep doing this for a bit to see if it helps.

19. 67min
20. 1.25hr show + 60 min surfing + I"m here now after the kids are in bed!

Leechblock works. It hasn't kicked me off which means I'm doing under an hour a day already.

I accidentally left a window open with MDC and it froze the site. Dh freaked out until I explained why the computer was wonky once the window was closed the computer worked great again.

Whew!! I did horribly yesterday. I couldn't sleep at 4am and so I got online for about an hour and a half. Then, I went back to sleep but had a headache when I woke up. So I didn't feel very good and didn't really monitor myself. I KNOW I was online for at least 3 hours yesterday. But I'm glad I'm now aware of that.

19. 67min
20. 2 hrs 45min
21. ~3 hrs?
22. 30 min so far

I mean, what's typical? In this technological day and age, is this normal for some people? Especially those without tv? Am I beating myself up for no reason?
