7 week old drool thoughts and ideas

My DH is asking if our DD (7 weeks) could be teething already??!!! I don't see anything except a white dot in the upper back part of her mouth but know teeth come in in the front... but she's drooling a lot these last 2 days. She drools sitting, lying down, resting on your shoulder, sleeping, and loves mouthing and chewing on clothes. It's all so new to us, first baby, first baby drool... everything.

Also, wondered if there's anything we should be trying to do for her (tummy time, toys, activities) that will help her...

We are just so in love with her and want to give her the best.

Aww, your last line made me smile- very sweet.

V started showing teething signs at about 2 months- drooling, chewing, random fussbutt moments, but didn't cut her first tooth (teeth, really- she gets them in pairs and quads!) until a week after she turned six months.

We were CONVINCED she'd break a tooth through at any moment countless times, and had given up on the whole thing when *boom* two popped through!

When she was especially fussy, we gave her chilled (not frozen, except once, when she about froze her hands and whole face off!) teething rings and washcloths. Pretty much, though, you just grin and bear it.

All that said, some babes DO get really early fangs, but, imo, it's not worth investing any emotional energy into it.

Increased drool production can happen months before teeth show up, as I can tell you from personal experience. I thought Cecilia was teething at 6 weeks, because on top of the drooliness, she was suddenly scraping her gums on everything. Fast forward to now, and at 6 months, she still hasn't cut any teeth.

If she starts to get a rash from all the drooliness (under the chin and in the neck folds is a really common place to get a rash from drool), try giving her a bunch of naked time, and find ways to play with her that encourage her to tilt her head up/back so that area can dry out.

Thanks so much for this! I've thought about doing that - I did it for my dog when he was a puppy and it seemed to help with his chewiness. Ha ha, but this is my DD ya know? And she doesn't really know to chew or hold onto anything yet. Should I wait for a while before even trying this? I told my DH we might have to start putting on the bibs! Fussiness we're used to, from day 14 or so (haha), but this accompanied by drool is new to us!

I have seen some redness and just today a little under her chin... so thanks for the great idea!!! I also really need to file her nails because she's scratching her pretty li'l face!

The only time I can clip Cecilia's nails are when she's sleeping. The kid never stops moving!

Yeah our baby also started drooling around 2 months and I've been convinced ever since that he's getting teeth...well, he is, but none have busted out yet. I have also noticed a white dot and thought it has to be a tooth, but it's not one of the middle ones so that doesn't make much sense. Is that a tooth? I have no idea. But it does take months before the teeth actually appear.

My DD was just a drooler when she was that age! Starting at about two months until about seven months (when she actually cut a tooth), she would soak through several bibs a day. Its perfectly normal for babies to drool like that. It doesn't bother them and its not habit for them to swallow it down. Just watch for irritation and be sure to wipe it up often. Otherwise, its just baby drool, its clean.

I know drooling is supposed to be a sign of teething, but I haven't had that be my expirence. Neither of mine have drooled any more while teething than at any other point. Like I said, DD actually stopped drooling more when she cut her first teeth! Then it stayed that way. Teething ususally starts somewhere between 2-9 months.

DS started drooling like crazy at 8 weeks and we started using lots of bibs or he would soak through several shirts a day. At 7.5 months, he still has no teeth.

DD1 started drooling at 2 weeks, so I thought ALL babies were that drooly. Turns out her first 2 popped out at 3.5 months. DD2 waited until just shy of 5 months. Mom brags that my sister got her first at 2 months. So yeah, early teething is possible, but so are massive amounts of drool for no real reason.
