Hot tub

Hi there.

I know hot baths and hot tubs are off limits during pregnancy. I also know hot tubs and stuff are bad for men's fertility. Do you think it's okay if we have it at a low temperature? If so, what temp is appropriate?

I don't have any experience about hot tubs, but I personally would have DH avoid them, and avoid them during the 2ww, just in case. Better safe than sorry, in my opinion.

Good luck!

Going by common sense, I would assume that a hot tub that is @ body temperature or less (36 C or 97 F) probably wouldn't be harmful to you if you were pregnant (though DH should probably avoid even those temps).

Disclaimer: I am really not an expert on this, you should probably do some more research instead of trusting my completely random advice!

I was wondering if anyone had spoken to their midwife about it. I will keep searching. Thanks.

low temp is fine TTC and in pregnancy. I was in a hot tub (set to 99) several times during the TWW I got pregnant in... and several times later in the pregnancy.

Thanks.

I did more research and it seems to be that the majority of people say that as long as the temp is 100 or below, you're fine. I even went to "google scholar" to read articles. I read one where they had 20 women in a hot tub btwn 102 and 104 degrees and measured how long it took their temp to rise to 101/02 (which is where the danger starts). It took 15-20 minutes, but only 5 made it that far. The rest got out before their temp was too high just based on comfort level.

I would not go in a public hot tub while pregnant, but this would be my own in my backyard. I'd set it very low (lower than 100) and see how I felt. I would never ever take a chance on the health of the baby, but it seems illogical to me that it would be a problem if it did not raise your core temp and the water was clean. Seems like a no brainer.

I'll keep hunting for information, but I feel more confident about it.
