14 month old with sprained ankle...still limping

my dd sprained her ankle on the slide with her big sister. her foot got stuck under them on the way down. because of the swelling we took her for xrays of her leg and foot which were all normal. this was 10 days ago. she does some weight bearing but has a terrible limp. she walks mostly on her heel. we try not to let her walk too much but we have to let her down sometimes. should i be concerned yet? how long until she can walk without pain? is she doing any long term damage by walking on her heel?
thanks mamas

I think I would probably check with your pediatrician if it's still not showing much improvement. Sprains can take a while to heal, but usually do pretty well in younger kids.

How are you supporting the sprain?

Also, be aware that in kids that young, bones are more like green branches than dry wood, when they do break, it is much more likely to be a 'greenstick fracture' and they aren't always easily visible on an x-ray.

I would take her back in. Maybe something has changed, she might need a boot to help support her foot, etc.
